Diamond Guide

At House of Tatva, we bring you the legacy of knowledge that comes
with being in the business over three generations. We're captivated
by diamonds, and search the world to bring the best to you. Here is
some of that knowledge, to make your journey to buying diamonds.

The 4Cs

CUT, COLOUR, CLARITY, CARAT

Every natural diamond is unique and has distinguishing
characteristics. The 4Cs—color, clarity, cut and carat weight—are
the globally accepted standards for assessing the quality of a
diamond. Each of these qualities impact its beauty and structure.
They dictate how the diamond appears and establish its value.

01

Cut

A diamond owes most of its beauty to nature, but it is the shape and skillfulness of the polished cut that determines that all-important sparkle factor. Accuracy equals greater brilliance. Perfect proportions mean more sparkle. It's all about capturing and refracting light. Most familiar is the round brilliant cut but there is a diversity of beautiful diamonds for engagement rings.

Tatva believes quality of cut to be paramount, and as such all our stones are rigorously vetted for their brilliance. Whatever shape you choose, your diamond will be dazzling.

02

Colour

The color of a diamond actually refers to the lack of color in a diamond, with perfectly colorless diamonds considered the highest quality with the highest value. The scale begins with the letter D, representing colorless, and continues with increasing presence of color to the letter Z, or light yellow or brown. Besides these, diamonds occur in a variety of colours in nature and are called fancy color diamonds, such as pink, purple, blue, fancy yellow, orange, red, green, pink to purple, brown, and black, which lie outside this color range.

03

Clarity

Every diamond is unique. In the process of a diamond's natural formation, other minerals or crystals might be present which can disrupt the refraction of light through the stone. These influence the clarity grading of a diamond which is determined by the size, location and the number of tiny natural marks, known as inclusions, present in most diamonds. These marks are deemed to be the “fingerprints” of a diamond, making each stone unique with its own set of identifying characteristics. The clarity grade of a diamond is determined under 10x magnification and generally does not affect the beauty of the diamond. All our diamonds are selected to be visually perfect to the naked eye.

04

Carat

Carat (ct) is the unit used to measure the weight of a diamond, not size. Diamonds are weighted in metric carats and the higher the carat weight, the bigger the diamond and generally the higher the value of the diamond. A carat equals one-fifth of a gram (0.200 grams). The millimeter size of a diamond is relative to its carat weight (image is not to scale).

Three More C's

Certification

A diamond certificate is a report graded by renowned gemologists that certify the genuine features of a diamond. These certificates are given by a gemological laboratory verifying the quality of a diamond and features the specifications of the diamond such as the dimensions, clarity, color, symmetry, shape and weight.

All of our diamonds are handpicked by trained experts and we provide a unique International Certification from reputed laboratories (GIA, IGI, etc.) for your Tatva jewelry that specifies the stone's inherent characteristics.

Craftmanship

All of our jewelry is crafted with attention to design and detailing. A beautiful stone deserves a beautiful setting, and how a stone is mounted can definitely alter its appearance. Whether it is creating a custom pair of earrings, a signature engagement ring or pieces from our collections , our designs are made so that they are uniquely right for you. Setting refers to how gemstones are set, or mounted, into a metal band. Style refers to the overall design aesthetic that the setting helps create—whether it be classic or contemporary. House of Tatva assures you that the creativity behind our pieces is supported by skilled technical craftsmanship honed over decades.

We pour a lot of love and care into our jewelry. We design the jewelry, choose the diamonds individually, carefully craft the precious metal and set the stones one by one.
